I’m not really sure why I decided to do another dollhouse before Christmas after the shock of last year but honestly, I couldn’t resist!
Renovating To Perfection: Crafting Your Ideal Home
I found this old dollhouse in a Mullumbimby tip shop and knew Bobby would want one of the sides we gave Frankie last year, so I decided to do it! I wanted to do something different so in the end I used this inspiration and decided to make it a cafe, plant shop, bookstore, craft store and on top a little bedroom where the dolls live. As I want life. Revealed for 2024! Overall, I wanted to test if it was possible to create a pretty unique feeling dollhouse using a relatively basic one as a base. And I can confidently say yes it is!I’m going to share a lot more about it but in the meantime, here’s the before and after of this project. If you’re planning to do something creative this year and don’t know what yet, may I suggest a dollhouse? It will drive you completely crazy but you will be happy with it in the end.
All Season Sunrooms Are A Perfect Home Addition
Basically I did this dollhouse in 3 stages – exterior, walls and floors and then all the furniture and decorations. It was quite chaotic to do this in less than a week! For the exterior, I made bricks using cork that I glued into a brick pattern and then painted white, and then used popsicle sticks to make shingles for the roof. I didn’t think any of these things would work and I was blown away when they did! Honestly it immediately looked like a real small building. I then used scrapbook paper to wallpaper the walls, and I used a bunch of different techniques to create the floors. Finally, I made a lot of the furniture and decorations by hand, and that was seriously such a fun part of the whole process.
In the plant room I used thin adhesive backed cork to create herringbone patterned ‘brick’ inspired floors. I also added floral wallpaper on the walls. I made shelves and a rustic bench using stained balsa wood, as well as a ladder that I hung from the ceiling. The best part was making the plants and plant pots that I made using corks and fake plant pieces. I then added some of the things I bought, including a small cash register, watering cans and baskets.
I love the cafe, and I think it’s the place girls are drawn to the most. I started by making checkered ’tiles’ out of painted card, and then blue floral wallpaper. Then I built a small tiled coffee counter, first making the base out of balsa wood and then adding small mandala tiles that I grouted. I then made some additional furniture for the space including a bar table, pastry cabinet and runner rug using twine. I also added a little coffee window, and I used my Cricut to iron on the letter ‘COFFEE’ with a striped scalloped sheet. I bought a few things for the place including a coffee stand, coffee cups and pastries.
I love this little place! I stained a lot of jumbo popsicle sticks when I made the ceiling but I was able to use a lot of them through the rest of the dollhouse process – I used them to make the floor in this room, and then I did the mustard wallpaper. added I built the furniture from scratch including a small book display table, a green upholstered stool (it was a tub chair but the back was too short when I built it) and all the shelves. I added a rug made of cotton and then a whole bunch of little books including some I had read and some the girls liked. I also added a gallery wall and some cricket vinyl lettering on the walls.
These 7 Diy Trends Will Dominate Home Renovations In 2024
For the craft room, first I made tiled floors using patterned paper that I placed on thin adhesive caulk. I then used green floral wallpaper on all the walls. The focal point of the space is the arched craft shelves, I used my cricket to make them from thin wood. It took a few turns to get the math right but it turned out to be relatively easy to do. I made a trestle table using balsa wood and then added in lots of small craft supplies including balls of wool, spools of fabric, small paint brushes and small jars of paint. Some of the things I bought in this space included a toolkit with mini tools, a large vase and a basket.
The final space in the dollhouse is a small attic bedroom for the dolls to live in. I made white wood floors using those jumbo popsicle sticks, and added butterfly wallpaper. I bought a wonderful little iron bed for the room along with a porcelain bathroom set. I made a bedside table out of a cork and a round rug using some fabric. This is such a cute little room!
There you have it. The life I want and will probably never have! But a girl can dream right? It’s been both the funnest and saddest thing I’ve done in a while, but if not me, who? I’m really happy that I was able to turn a fairly basic dollhouse into something so fun! Stay tuned for more on how I did all the things in this dollhouse. We hired Eric as our contractor to remodel our master bath. He and his team are very easy to work with. The guys who did the rebuild were very hard working, honest, professional and friendly! They kept the place nice and clean every day after completion and they made sure all the details were correct. There were a lot of problems with the bath, but they fixed it. We are happy with the results.
