Innovating With Indoor Gardens

Innovating With Indoor Gardens – While growing organic herbs and vegetables in your home is a good idea, all those trays and overhead lights can take up a lot of space. That’s where OGarden comes in. The result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, it houses the plants in what is essentially a mini ferris wheel with a grow light in the middle.

Users start by planting seeds in included peat pellets, outside the OGarden. Once those seeds have sprouted, they are moved into the device (together with their peat pellets). There they slowly rotate around the light, while they receive water and a supplied biological growth supplement. They are mounted in holes in the rim, which prevent them from falling out when standing.

The main selling point of the system is that it takes up less floor space than a traditional indoor grow setup. That said, its Quebec-based designers also claim that because the plants continuously grow from a variety of angles (relative to gravity), they end up with much more robust leaves.

Canadian company Plantaform created the first smart indoor garden that uses fog to create a nutrient-rich environment to grow healthy plants quickly! This technology was developed by NASA to grow plants in space. It allows the device to consume much less water than traditional indoor gardening methods. The product became extremely popular in the USA and Canada due to its functionality and unique design!

As a startup, Plantaform had limited resources, and one of the main challenges was that their team had embedded experience but no software experience.

The Plantaform team was initially used for R&D purposes. When they started moving forward, they developed a more complex solution. Plantaform team realized that they can create an app and customize the UI to achieve the desired result without coding. They decided to go White Label and launch their apps on App Store and Google Play to take the user experience to the next level.

Plantaform developed a solution to monitor lighting and cleaning procedures, monitor water levels, plant progress, and other processes packed into a stylish mobile app.

Andres, CTO of Plantaform, shared that they chose it because it is the only platform that offers a complete set of tools needed to build and launch an IoT product, and most features are built-in.

Here is the short demo of the Plantaform app that the team kindly shared with us. It guides us through the end-user experience – from the very first device activation to navigating through all the functionality.

The second is having tools for multi-tenancy and IoT device management to admin all connected devices to see and be able to assign them to different users. Also the firmware API that offers was solid and easy to use so that we could develop quickly. Finally, it is an ability to make changes to the templates and that these changes go directly to all the different applications or all the people using the same template.
